NELSONVILLE, Ohio—A sheriff says an Ohio fire chief found shot at his fire station apparently committed suicide.

Sheriff Patrick Kelly in southeast Ohio’s Athens County says firefighters found 53-year-old Nelsonville Fire Chief Tim Carr with a gunshot wound at the firehouse Friday evening. Kelly says a .380-caliber handgun was recovered at the scene.

Carr was taken by helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators have released no other information about the shooting.

Calling hours for Carr are scheduled for midday Tuesday, followed by a church service for firefighters.
