Sheriff: Off-Duty Deputy Killed In Accident
An off-duty deputy was killed in an accident Wednesday evening.
PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio—An off-duty deputy was killed in an accident Wednesday evening.

The Pickaway County sheriff’s office investigated a vehicle versus pedestrian accident on Stout Road, in Washington Township that happened close to 5:38 p.m., according to Pickaway County Sheriff Dwight E. Radcliff.
Driver Tracey L. Fowler, 41, of Circleville was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry westbound on Stout Road and came to a dip in the road where a large tree was blocking the roadway.
Fowler struck the large tree, forcing it into Deputy Sheriff William K. Chadwell, the sheriff’s office said.
Chadwell, 70, was assigned court house security by the sheriff. Chadwell, who was en route to a private residence, had come upon the large tree blocking the roadway and had summoned assistance from the sheriff’s office.
Chadwell was transported to Berger Hospital by Circleville EMS where he was pronounced dead at 6:54 p.m. due to trauma.
According to Sheriff Radcliff, Chadwell’s death was the first line-of-duty death in his 44-year career as sheriff.
