Slain Local Diplomat Honored Thursday

WHITEHALL, Ohio—They were playing football in Whitehall Thursday night. But for many in attendance the game was secondary to a special halftime ceremony.

2001 Whitehall Yearling grad Brian Adkins was inducted posthumously into the high school’s hall of fame. Adkins, a 25 year old U.S. foreign service officer, was found dead in his Addis Ababas apartment while serving in Ethiopia this past February. An Ethiopian man later confessed.

Adkins realized a childhood dream as a diplomat and received a rare commendation for his efforts in repatriate 3 Americans back to the U.S.
