DELAWARE, Ohio—Thirty-seven kittens and cats, known to rescuers as The Delaware Collection, were rescued from a 500-square-foot apartment.

The kitties were living in pieces of furniture and had taken over the apartment, Executive Director of the Humane Society of Delaware County Wade Beane said.

A landlord notified authorities about the hoarding situation.

The humane society has not decided yet if it will press charges against the owner.

Despite living in deplorable conditions, Beane said the cats are well socialized.

They have all been spayed and neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

The rescued cats are now ready for loving homes, and Beane said they want to have them adopted soon, before they lose their social ability to interact with other people and other animals.

The Delaware Collection puts the Humane Society overcapacity: There are 250 cats in a facility that should hold about 187.

The society is holding a “double-the-love” special for the next two weeks, offering two cats for the price of one.
