CENTRAL OHIO—A new newspaper will be hitting Central Ohio newsstands. And although it’s full of photos of everyday people, chances are good that you don’t want to be in it.

NBC 4’s Mike Bowersock GOT ANSWERS on The Slammer.

The paper will arrive in Columbus in February, and it could put you behind bars.

The name of the paper? The Slammer.

The paper is in distribution in Raleigh, N.C., currently, and a Columbus investor plans to bring it here.

Basically, The Slammer is made up of mug shots of every person who was arrested during the week, the reason for the arrest and meant-to-be humorous quips about the person or crime.

The popular $1 papers fly off the shelves in Raleigh.

Bowersock said there’s a different side to the situation, though. How about someone who’s been put in the slammer and doesn’t belong there?

“We also as citizens enjoy a presumption of innocence,“ Columbus defense attorney Sam Shamanski said.

The Slammer could make Shamanski’s job more difficult.

“When you’re arrested, you’re usually at your worst,“ Shamanski said.

“What about the folks who are wrongly accused?“ Shamanski asked. “There’s absolutely no evidence and someone goes out and files a charge privately, or someone’s arrested on a warrant and they get their mug shot taken.“

The paper also will show wanted criminals, too, so there will be benefits other than seeing others’ worst photo.

Guilty or not, soon, you’ll see all of those mug shots side-by-side in The Slammer.
