Three Ohio Women Convicted In Mall Death

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio —A jury has convicted three Columbus women of murder and robbery charges in connection with the 2005 hit-and-run death of a man at a western Ohio mall.  A jury on Friday found Alicia McAlmont, Toneisha Gunnell and Mahogany Patterson guilty of murder, aggravated robbery, theft and involuntary manslaughter.  It is the second conviction and third trial in the case.

Prosecutors say the women shoplifted clothes at the Upper Valley Mall in Springfield and then struck and killed 49-year-old John Deselem as they fled the parking lot.  An appeals court overturned their previous convictions because of the dismissal of a potential black juror. The victim was white, and the defendants are black.  The second trial ended in a mistrial.
