COLUMBUS, Ohio —A toddler was wandering around a Northeast Side neighborhood Tuesday evening, and officials are working to prove people who came forward are the girl’s family.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Police received a call about a young girl wandering the streets alone at about 6 p.m. Tuesday, according to Franklin County Children Services spokesperson Doris Calloway Moore.

The girl was found near Mock Road at Delavan Drive and Bar Harbor Road.

The girl is about 2 to 3 years old.

Police canvassed the area for 45 minutes but did not find the toddler’s parents.

No one in the neighborhood could identify the toddler, and she was not able to tell authorities her name or who her parents are.

FCCS said they believe she may not speak English or has a speech delay.

The toddler was found clean and healthy and with no signs of abuse or foul play.

FCCS said some family members came forward Tuesday night. The department has to conduct an investigation to prove the people are the toddler’s family members.

The verification process usually takes about one day, according to FCCS.

Apparently, there was a miscommunication between caretakers about who was watching the child, and they didn’t realize she was gone.

The toddler was in foster care Tuesday night. FCCS said she likely will be back with her family soon.

She is so cute. At the time the picture shown in this article was taken she was among strangers. She still has a beautiful smile on her face. To me this shows she must come from a caring family that is raising her properly. It also says the people at FCCS are making her feel comfortable and welcome. I agree, thank God she is okay.

As long as there are idiots like the parents of this child, we will always have child murderers and pedophiles. Too many parents make it way too easy for their children to become victims. I would never wish this on any parent, but we need to start putting some blame on THE parents who don’t pay attention. BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN PEOPLE!!

Yea sure misunderstanding.I have one of these deals across the street where a 2 year old girl and 3 year old boy are wandering around, coming in my yard and running in the street all the time.I have my own kids to worry about and i fear for these 2 always wandering.I lead them back home and beat on the door for about 5 minutes before anyone answers and they get pissed off that I got involved.
Im going to call someone on them if it continues but all they do is turn them back to the parents until one of them is kidnapped or killed.

yeah accidents happen and it is great the child is safe. But I do not think you can call no supervising a 3 year old an accident. 3 year olds need watched at all times to protect them. And for the family not to report the child missing is even more disturbing.

Thank God she is okay.  Accidents happen and this family is fortunate that there was no harm suffered due to this negligent situation. A true blessing.

miscommunication problem I would say. I think that if you have a 2 or 3 year old you pay close attention to the child especially if they are outside. WHo leaves a child alone or does not even realize the child is gone. Parents like this should not have custody of their children. My children would have been reported missing after 2 minutes of not being able to find them.
