CLEVELAND, Ohio—Ohio’s senior senator is returning more than $430,000 to donors who have supported him as he prepares to retire.  A financial report filed Friday with federal election officials shows Republican Sen. George Voinovich is refunding about $330,000 to individual supporters and $106,000 to political action committees.  Candidates for federal office can fundraise simultaneously for primary and general elections but must return money raised for the general election if they withdraw before the primary.  The senator’s office says he plans to use the $2 million remaining in his political account to help make sure he is succeeded but a Republican in 2010.  Voinovich announced in January that he would not seek re-election.
