Districts Go Back To Class
CENTRAL OHIO -- As more than 70,000 students headed back to Columbus City Schools Wednesday, there was important information regarding dismissals, dress codes and school lunches that parents needed to know, NBC 4's Tom Brockman reported.
BOTTOMLINE: As students head back to school, important policy changes have been made to dress codes, lunch costs and start and dismissal times for Columbus City Schools.
The start and dismissal times for a majority of Columbus City Schools were set as follows:
· Elementary schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. and dismiss at 3:45 p.m.
· Middle schools will either begin at 8:23 a.m. and dismiss at 2:30 p.m. or start at 8:53 a.m. and dismiss at 3 p.m.
· Most high schools will begin at 8:23 a.m. and dismiss at 2:30 p.m.
There are exceptions, so parents should double-check with their child's school.
Columbus City Schools also set guidelines for the students' dress code this year.
Students will not be permitted to wear:
· shorts or skirts shorter than mid-thigh
· revealing clothing
· flip-flops or slippers
· hats or head-coverings, unless they are for religious purposes
If your child plans to buy a school lunch this year, the cost will be $1.75 for elementary, $2 for middle-school and $2.25 for high-school students.
Prior to the start of school, Columbus City Schools sent parents a back-to-school transportation mailer that included specific school and busing information, reported Brockman.
To ensure that students would get on the correct buses, the school system provided informational wristbands for students in pre-K through fifth grade, as well as special education and English-as-a-second-language students. Those wristbands included the student's information and are to be worn for the first three days of school, Brockman reported.
South-Western City Schools also headed back to class on Wednesday. For information regarding policy changes or updates to South-Western City Schools, check out the district's website.
