School Board Accepts No-Zero Policy

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio—Students in Chillicothe schools will no longer be able to earn a zero on assignments.

The Chillicothe City School Board had been debating whether to make a 50 percent the lowest grade a student could earn, and the proposal passed in this week’s board meeting.

Mt. Logan Elementary school will be the pilot school to start the policy.

Supporters say giving graders lower than a 50 percent discourages students.

They say this new policy will bring a grade of F in line with the 10-point differences between other grades.

Opponents say it gives students credit they didn’t earn.

i also wonder what higher education that these kids would be able to get and how they are expected to do good when they learn off the bat bad math and you can do good in school by doing only half of the work. is this area going to create its own higher learning with these same principles?

so if you gat an a on one and dont do the other you still average a c? i hope they make the grade to play sports about 3.5gpa then. that is the stupidest ideal i think ive heard of, being it swings the average grade way up there. just do the math, 50,50, and 80. thats 180 with a 60 average so you pass with a d and do one out of three projects, instead of about 27% and a big fat f. reward ignorance and laziness, then wounder why you wont get any jobs down there.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other. At my high school they didn’t give F’s, but they did give E’s instead. In most elementary schools they don’t give letter grades. In any case, the brightest still rise to the top.

It’s a way of making it look like students are being taught the mandated tests.

Geesh, are kids that stupid nowadays that we have to start them out at 50% to begin with??  When I was in school if I missed every question on a test, it was a 0%.

Just one more thing teaching kids they’re entitled to something they didn’t earn.

Isn’t that one of the big complaints about today’s youth?

Opponents say a 50% on any given project will give students credit they didn’t earn? Last time I looked, a 60% grade was required in order to earn any credit for any assignment or project.
