MARYSVILLE, Ohio -- Several animals, including horses and sheep, were seized Thursday from a property in Union County.

According to the Union County Humane Society, a search warrant was executed and two emaciated horses, four sheep and two sheep carcasses were confiscated, NBC 4's Mikaela Hunt reported.

Humane society officials said the animals were found on Dec. 31, when a sheriff's deputy responded to a call regarding sheep in the roadway.

"Conditions were certainly not good. The horses have experienced significant neglect and we're doing the best we can to get them in good shape and moving forward," said Rachel Finney, of Union County Humane Society.

Officials said the property is in foreclosure and the horses were taken to The Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital for treatment.

Charges are pending, but the owner of the property has not been located.

The sheep were assessed and are currently receiving treatment at an unspecified facility.
