Mistrial Declared For Man Accused Of Kidnapping, Rape

[dateline] -- A judge declared a mistrial on Friday for the Zanesville man accused of kidnapping a 14-month-old girl from her bedroom, raping her and leaving her to die in a ditch.

Randy Dillon appeared in court on Friday, but the judge ruled a mistrial after the defense attorney referenced a polygraph test during the trial. The test was not admissible in the case.

Prosecutors made opening statements on Thursday, where they laid out the case against Dillon, saying he left the baby in an area known for coyotes and wild dogs.

Dillon knew the child's mother through his girlfriend and was acquainted with the family.

There is no word on the new start date for the trial.
