COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A 12-year-old boy is credited with saving his family after a fire broke out at 2601 Coral Ridge Ave. late Monday night.

Firefighters believe the fire likely started in the garage where two minivans were being garaged, NBC 4’s Mike Bowersock reported.

The family is OK, though, thanks to the oldest of the family’s seven children, who woke the family, and a helpful neighbor.

“Well, I was just coming back from getting a bag of ice, and I seen all the smoke,” said neighbor Tim Greer. “I came round the corner, and the house was blazing. She was screaming for the baby. The dad went running up into the house. The next thing you know, the window is being kicked open, and he's hanging the baby out, and I didn't know what was going on.

“I just ran up there and grabbed the baby, grabbed him by his arm and pulled him away from the house,” Greer said.

It was a case of right place at the right time, Bowersock said.

Columbus firefighters said this fire doesn’t look suspicious.
