1 Dies In Car-Versus-Pickup Crash
DELAWARE COUNTY, Ohio -- A two-vehicle head-on accident closed a state Route between Sunbury and Johnstown Tuesday morning.
NBC 4's Tom Brockman reported from the scene.
A Chevy Malibu was driving eastbound on state Route 37 and a Ford F-150 was going westbound around 5:27 a.m., according to Ohio State Patrol. Both vehicles had one occupant.
According to the driver of the F-150, a deer ran between cars and next thing he knew the Chevy was in his lane, went left of center and collided into his pickup.
George Shaw, 25, of Delaware was killed in the crash. He was dead pronounced at scene. He was driving the Chevy and not wearing his seatbelt, OSP said.
The driver of the F-150 was taken to Grant Medical Center. He was conscious.
Investigators assumed Shaw hit his brakes and the small amount of snow on road caused the Chevy to slide.
Patrol continued to investigate the accident but said charges will not be filed. Officials found deer tracks that went along with the F-150's driver's story.
Officials said speed was not a factor.
SR 37 was reopened by around 8:30 am.
