Health officials meet with two local restaurants to discuss potential food safety violations that could make customers sick.COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Columbus Public Health met with two local restaurants Wednesday to discuss potential food safety violations that could make customers sick.
Originally, customer complaints led health officials to the investigation of the China House Chinese Restaurant on Refugee Road in Canal Winchester.
The first inspection in September resulted in 35 violations, including 13 critical violations: food safety storage, mixed contamination such as uncooked chicken and beef being stored together, the hand washing procedures of employees and workers eating while serving food.
A month later, officials found 49 violations -- 18 of which were critical with similar problems. A third inspection found 24 violations with eight critical violations, resulting in the hearing.
Health officials recommended a three-day suspension of the restaurant's license until the establishment can meet health codes.
The Crescent Café & Bakery in the Kenny Center mall was also a topic of another hearing Wednesday.
The cafe currently has a yellow sticker in its window, which means the business is in the enforcement process because of previous uncorrected violations.
The restaurant had a total of 20 violations, 14 of which were critical, so a standard inspection was conducted along with the complaint investigation.
A three-day suspension of the restaurant's license was recommended, but the owner said he believe he's met the safety standards.
