EUCLID, Ohio -- Authorities say a Norfolk Southern train smashed into the side of a bus that had stalled while going over a track in suburban Cleveland, destroying the bus but injuring no one.

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority spokesman Jerry Masek says the bus driver and eight passengers evacuated shortly before the collision, which occurred Wednesday at about 8 a.m.

Masek says the bus had just left its route stop at a Euclid hospital when it stalled. The train arrived several minutes later.

Masek says the train operator slowed the train but couldn't stop it in time.

Norfolk Southern Corp. spokesman Rudy Husband says the train wasn't damaged and no one aboard was hurt.
