Issue 47: Final Push For Supporters, Another Hopeful Loss For Opponents

COLUMBUS, Ohio —The South-Western City Schools levy will be on the ballot for the fourth straight time Tuesday as the district hopes for a different outcome.

Issue 47, the districts $7.4 mil levy, would restore bussing and bring on pay-to-play for students along with providing millions of dollars to maintain school operations.

According to Dr. Bill Wise, Superintendent of South-Western City Schools, the community is seeing this levy in a different light now.

“We’ve eliminated over 350 positions at this point, many of them, 114, are actually classroom. Over the past three years, we’ve lost academic opportunities as well,“ he said.

Wise went on to say the school board has lowered the mileage to make it more affordable for the community.  Simply put, the levy would cost an owner of a $100,000 home $18.89 extra per month.

Opponents of Issue 47 say they don’t want their taxes to be increased and that there should be reform to the way schools are funded.

Now that the levy has passed, when might I expect a miraculous increase in my property value?

Why are you punishing your kids (and your property values) by voting no??

Why not just vote out the board if that’s your problem?  This makes no sense…

The No Voters, are not the ones, who are hurting the kids. Its mr. wise and the board. They chose to take away busing and extra activities. They chose to use the kids as bait, only to punish them for their GREED. They think tax-funded jobs are recession proof. While we are taking paycuts, layoffs, losing our jobs, losing our medical benefits, losing our homes, the list goes on. They chose to end busing and activities..thats your school board. Why didnt they take pay cuts? Since 1995 the teachers and administrators have enjoyed 67% and 74% pay increases, pretty nice huh? So, in reality, its your school board who are the ones hurting our children. Im proud to vote NO.

No Voters,

Punish the kids now because your mad at past or current elected boards. Genius! Demand less pay, less taxes but expect results like higher tax districts. Genius! Drink the Jones, VanOrder, Legue “Koolaid of Community death” and complain about home values. Genius! Complain about kids lack of values but you did not put a helmet on that soldier did you. Genius!

I expect roads to fix themselves (for free) and I demand that gas prices go down. I demand that all employees of Kroger take a pay cut before raising grocery prices. I demand that my demands be decreed Genius Demands!

What about my grandmother and parents whose kids are grown.  That is not fair to them or to first time home buyers like me and other people who may not have any kids or there kids are so young that this does not affect them at this time.  The staff at swcs is over paid,  I went there and witnessed everything, if the parents only new what went on.  Let me tell you absolutly nothing that is just it.

Vote YES today and stand up for the kids in our community and our property values!  Our entire family has already submitted our yes votes.

I saw the students and levy supporters marching on Stringtown Monday, and all I can say is WOW!  There must have been 800 people stretched for multiple blocks.  Wonderful show of support.

I hope the people who live in the Southwestern School District like living there, because when this levy goes down they will not be able to sell their homes for what they owe on them, and will have to walk away or live there for decades…

Stand up for our kids, our schools and our community.  Vote YES on issue 47.  I have already cast my YES vote and so has my entire family!

By voting no, voters in the Southwestern School District simply remove their real estate market from serious consideration by anyone with kids or anyone who wants to buy a property with appreciation potential. That would be 99% of real estate shoppers. Given the bad economy, that helps make other suburbs more desirable. Its all about competing for the limited number of home buyers in a permanently shrunken economy.

HP Fan, you state that 83% of the budget goes to salaries and benefits.  Well considering that they are service oriented that would only make sense that the majority of the budget is salaries and benefits.
