GROVE CITY, Ohio—Supporters and opponents gear up for the last two weeks before Election Day in the South-Western City School District.
Issue 47 Campaign Co-Chair Jill Billman-Royer said volunteers are hitting the pavement and knocking on doors, handing out literature in support of a 7.4-mill continuous operating levy for the South-Western City School District.
Billman-Royer said she hopes the information will help to dispel the rumors circulating across the district.
The district web site said flat state funding and increasing costs are causing a deficit. The 7.4-mill operating levy would cost the owner of a $100,000 home $18.89 per month.
With an average home cost of $169,600, the average taxpayer would pay less than $8 per week. The district has cut $22 million to date.
Opponents say they plan to hold a rally just before Election Day.
Terry Jones of South-Western Alternatives to Taxes (SWAT) says he still believes administrators should cut salaries and curb overgenerous benefits.
SWAT is also going door to door, looking for no votes. Many voters on fixed income say they simply can’t afford to pay higher taxes.
SWCS parent Amy Watson Grace says that’s what she’s hearing from other parents and residents in the district. “Well, I hope that the levy passes, but I have to say I’m not terribly optimistic.“

Longorj1: Maybe you should go back and re-read so you can comprehend what has been said and who said it. The problem I have with you and others similar to you wanting to point fingers, degrade people, etc. is pathetic. Again, you want to throw your slanderous remarks toward a woman who was merely trying to tell of an incident that occurred. Because she doesn’t speak in the manner you feel appropriate or up to your standards, you choose to insult her intelligence. You don’t know her. Another tactic to side track the real issue at hand. I’ve yet to see anything you have typed regarding your support of this levy to be worth reading. You provide no facts, no real argument. You just get on here and want to humiliate and downgrade others. As for Terry Jones, get your people straight too. I haven’t said anything about him. I’ve never met him, know nothing about him. I did review the website and I see nothing inappropriate about it. Just as you see nothing inappropriate about supporting a levy that will create additional hardship for the elderly, increase foreclosure rates and cause the communities within this district more financial difficulty all so SWCS can get their pay raises and free benefits.
GCMOMTOO again its ok for you to say whatever you want regardless if its accurate or not but I am putting people down by stating facts. Someone may have come to her door to offer tutoring, but they were not SWCS employees. Maybe someone heard her grammer and felt sorry for her and her children and decided to offer help to her. But they were not employees of SWCS. And what does SWCS do that is so against what they are suppossed to do? Lets talk about how opponents are allowed to behave and act and speak because they are rallying for their cause. The SWAT team is direspectful and vile and rude. But of course that is justified by people like you because you agree with them. The way you speak about productive members of our society who teach our children every day is deplorable. But thats ok. But state a fact about Terry Jones and your in a fury. As a matter of fact anything someone does that agrees with you is ok. Your about as much of a waste of time as Laura.

Maybe I am a teacher or administrator using company resources and taking time away from the kids to post messages on here.
I am employed thank you very much. Again another supporter to pay SWCS way out of their wasteful mess ASSUMING things they know nothing about. Ever think about researching things before you go making accusations? And I see you have been on here quite a bit—why don’t you get a job? Truth hurts - - so once again, it results in lashing out at others. I don’t expect anything more from the supporters of this levy - afterall, that’s what SWCS is doing to everyone.

longorj1: Maybe you should bring SWCS faculty into your home and feed them, support them, if you have the money to waste. STOP DOWNING THE ONES WHO ARE TRYING TO GET BY AND JUST MAKE IT! Our busing could have stayed in tact, as well as sports if we weren’t paying for SWCS to avoid the economy we all are stuck living in.
No one came to your house from the school district asking you to sign up for tutoring. There is no reason to make up lies if you are really doing the right thing. And based off your post, maybe you should have taken these people up on their offer.
