COLUMBUS, Ohio—Leaves are falling fast, and residents in the city of Columbus are finding ways to deal with their yard waste after city services were suspended due to budget cuts.
Many residents took advantage of free yard waste drop-off sites across the city this past Saturday. The Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio collected more than 68 tons of waste.
A Rumpke subscription is also another popular option. According to a spokesperson for Rumpke, phones are ringing nonstop in the call center.
On October 22, there were 8,735 subscribers. As of this afternoon there were 9,730.
Resident Kim Marino chose to go with a Rumpke subscription.
“It’s just more cost-effective, I think. We save on fuel and things like that as far as making trips back and forth,“ she said.
Columbus officials say the city’s yard-waste removal program will start back up in the spring of 2010 when the Rumpke contract expires.
