Ohio House Dems Want Online Voter Registration

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohio House Democrats want voters to be able to register online without then having to send information through the mail.

The changes are part of a bill to overhaul Ohio’s election laws. Voters would be able to register online if they have a valid Ohio driver’s license, and would be automatically given the opportunity to register when they deal with agencies such as the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Ohioans are already given the opportunity to register when they get a driver’s license.

The bill also would decrease the number of days for early voting while increasing the number of early voting sites. It also seeks to streamline voter identification requirements.

The updated bill was released Thursday in the House Ethics and Elections committee.
