Ohio’s next operating budget is now law.

COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohio’s next operating budget is now law.

The massive $50.5 billion, two-year spending blueprint was filled with what lawmakers and Gov. Ted Strickland agreed were tough choices.

If you are a college student, you may see your tuition go up for the first time in three years. But if you stay in Ohio after graduation, you may get money from the state to help with the down payment on your first home.

If you get food from a food pantry, there is no guarantee that there will be enough food to go around, even though the state increased its aid to food banks by about 40 percent.

If you visit your local library, you may see reduced hours and staffing because of budget cuts.

If you are elderly and need home-based care, you may have to be put on a waiting list.

Perhaps Coleman should focus on the budget instead of his girlfriend who he takes to spas for the exceutive treatment.  Makes me wonder if he’s using taxpayer’s money for her manicures and whether his highly-spirited wife nows about his little and much younger friend

I love all these people who want all the cuts.  They would be the first in line to the government if something happened to them and they needed help

Another one.

Parents who have children in school must volunteer 10 hours per month to help offset the cost of the school.

1.  Parents should be responsible for the well being of their child.  Not the state, not the taxpayer.  If you cannot afford to have a child, don’t have one and don’t burden the state for your error!  I for one am glad that the budget is cut for children. They should have been done more deep.

2.  Libraries.  If more people are using them, there is a demand, yet no one wants to pay for them.  Instead of free checkout, make it user based systems.  For a library card fee, lost card replacement fee, check out of a book fee, increase late fees, fees for use of computer, etc.

3.  Government should close down 1 day a week, end any pension benefits for government workers.  Make them invest in a 401K.

4.  Stop legislating morality.  Tax and legalize prostitution, soft drugs, gambling.  Those who chose should be able to enjoy and partake.

5 Combine counties and county functions. Really for a state this side you need 80+ counties?  REALLY?

6.  Eliminate all sport and after school functions and focus all money on education only.  Any after school sports, music, should be borne by the cost of the participant!

7.  End school bussing.  Parents…you are responsible for ensuring your child gets to school, not the state, city, county, YOU THE PARENT!

Anyone else have any ideas.  No idea is a bad idea, just put them all on here and lets get the government to function to benefit all not subsidize anyone.

Why is it when budget cuts are done it is the children, elderly, and the poor who get the shaft first?  This is the way it has been in any government.  Whether it be state, city, school districts and so on.  I would like to see the “top-notch” politicians live for 6 months on a salary like mine and try to make it.  I’ll bet they couldn’t do it.

Id like to see them   cut the budget by about 90%

Ohio is   the 4th largest taxed state in the union.
