COLUMBUS, Ohio—Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has granted clemency to 78 inmates after a painstaking review of three years of requests extending into his predecessor’s term.

Most of the 68 people granted pardons have already served their time. The 10 whose sentences were commuted are mostly behind bars and expecting release. Among them is a Toledo gang member whose judge openly expressed second thoughts about Willie Knighten Jr.‘s conviction.

Strickland, a former prison psychologist, says he personally reviewed all 296 applications. He estimated that he, his chief legal counsel Kent Markus, and staff members put in 1,000 hours reviewing the requests, made between 2005 and 2007.

Strickland now turns to 177 cases recommended for clemency in 2008 by the parole board, then to 226 requests made this year.

OR… what about those who have, as the article says, “already served their sentences”.  Do you REALLY still want to support these folks with your tax money?  Isn’t that a “liberal” thing to do - to feed and house criminals with taxpayer dollars?

I would like to see a more detailed anology of individual cases here. The whats and whys-so to speak.
I would like to see as much attention given to the backlog in rape kit analysis that I’ve read sit idle(due to cost)in evidence rooms all over our state. While these kits sit untested, rapists continue to rape with little fear of ever being caught. This seems like a civil rights violation against the rights of protection(equal protection)for women and children.

Typical liberal democrat…. spends over 1000 hours helping criminals rather than keeping us safe. Liberals like Strickland are soft on crime, soft on terror.
