COLUMBUS, Ohio—Gov. Ted Strickland has asked the Ohio Lottery Commission to increase the age limit for playing slot machines at race tracks from 18 to 21.
Strickland says he changed course Monday after considering concerns.
The commission approved proposed rules last month that would allow 18-year-olds to play slot machines to be established at Ohio’s seven horse racing tracks. The plan was part of the latest state budget, although it is being challenged in multiple lawsuits.
Ohio would join New York, Oklahoma, Rhode Island and South Dakota in allowing 18-year-olds to gamble.
Opponents of the plan say teenagers don’t generally have the money to gamble and might have a harder time walking away from the machines than older players.

In a related subject, before voting no on casinos….you should research to see who is paying for the “vote no” commercials.
Yep, well then, they should send home all the military guys and gals who are 18. If you can fight for your country, you should be able to decide if you wish to play slots or not.
Who’s arguing three? I commend you and all of our brave sons and daughters in their / our quest for liberty and freedom to make choices. What did you fight for over in Asia? to come home to a government that will tell how to live your life and make all of your personal choices for you?
Where’s the freedom and liberty in that? I personally could care less whether gambling is leagalized or not in Ohio as I am not a big gambler. I’m tired of government taking away the basic freedom of choice.

Old enough to go to war to fight and die for our country or a meaningless piece of sand but can’t have a beer or gamble? Is this a forced morality or what?
Okay hlprdude, is this the ONLY argument you have??? Let me say something more. When I was young in 1967 there was a small skirmish going on in Southeast Asia maybe you heard of it in history class.
I was drafted, yes the government could do that, trained and sent overseas. All this BEFORE I was 19 years of age. By law I could not vote, drink except for 3.2 beer or gamble. Do I feel I missed anything?? NO !! Was I immature and most likely would have spent my entire paycheck in one night? Yes, I most likely would have. So please do not come at me with the I can fight but not gamble bull. Mature up hlprdude and vote, you can do that…....right??

Finally, the voice of reason. 18 year olds should not be able to “play” slots. I agree they most likely would not be able to walk away. Also, with what is being kicked around as a pay out percentage, I don’t see why anyone would want to “play” them.
