Drink Dispute: Costco To Stop Carrying Coke Products

» 4 Comments | Post a Comment

A drink dispute means Costco customers may not be able to buy Coca-Cola products.

Costco executives say Coca Cola is not providing competitive pricing.

Costco says it won’t remove Coke products from store shelves but it will not restock them until there is an agreement.

Coca Cola won’t comment on ongoing negotiations but does state the company is committed to working with Costco in a “spirit of fairness.“

Costco Wholesale Corp. operates about 560 warehouses in the U.S. and abroad.

I agree with Truth…
This time of year, grocery stores have soda (pop) on sale weekly.  If it isn’t on Costco’s shelves, it is on Meijer’s, Kroger’s, Giant Eagle’s and Walmart’s and is probably cheaper too.  This won’t hurt the shoppers or Coke one little bit.

This would be an admirable move if…it…wasn’t…COSTCO Wholesales.  Maybe IGA, perhaps..

Coca-Cola sells numerous beverages to numerous worldwide retailers for numerous prices every day, week, month and year.  The longevity of their product gives them the room to be as competitive when and where they see fit, because people are going to always buy their beverages.  Costco temporarily refusing to restock their products isn’t going to make or break the company, and I don’t see Coca-Cola making any price “concessions” anytime soon, no pun intended.

I certainly do not want to buy a product that will not provide competitive pricing. Buying soda or pop today, especially when you have kids, is more of a luxury these days. I grew up with Pepsi and prefer the taste of Pepsi.  If Coke will not reduce their prices, more and more will go to other brands and their kids will grow up preferring those other brands as well.  Yeah, good marketing choice Coca-Cola, stick to your guns!  Teach us all a lesson!
