What Will Stimulus Money Do For You?

COLUMBUS, Ohio —President Barack Obama is expected to sign his nearly $790 billion stimulus plan into law on Tuesday in Denver.
The White House said he wants to highlight how the plan will help the economy and real Americans.
The bottom line? The bill is expected to create 3.5 million jobs, NBC 4‘s Marcus Thorpe reported.
From cleaning up abandoned homes and building high speed rail lines to fixing up Americans highways, bridges and schools, how will you benefit from the President’s plan?
The hope is that Americans will be inspired to spend whether it’s on a new car or new home—or add to your savings.
If you already spending on things like college, you’ll be able to save.
As stimulus dollars roll in, realtors are starting to see a bit of a rise in business.
“Working with six buyers, it jumped—what I was hoping for,“ said Daniel Swick, a realtor.
The money could help speed up the process. First-time home buyers would receive an $8,000 tax credit and they wouldn’t have to repay the government later.
“We have to get the first-time home buyers moving to trigger local chain reaction that will help two or three other local home sales,“ Swick said.
But is it enough?
Swick said he is worried that too much government intervention could be a short-term fix, but lead to even longer problems if financial education isn’t included in the release.
For college students, any help with costs is welcomed.
Under the stimulus plan, college-bound students will be watching closely.
Parents of college students would be eligible to claim a tax credit of up to $2,500.
Sara Skarsten is a freshman at Columbus State Community College, but would like to help out her parents with college costs.
“It definitely would be nice to take that cost away,“ she said.
There are some provisions to reward people for weatherizing their homes. A $25 increase in weekly benefit checks for the unemployed, and lengthen the period in which people can be eligible for extended unemployment benefits.

there is no way to please americans! ever. that is not to say don’t try of course. as a people we need to understand that everything that is happening, can be “blamed” on any number of things- all day, but is GOING to happen. i’m reading and reading and there is no mention of the bible. we are living in the last days. i read about funny things earlier mentioned, well that is ultimately the funniest thing of all. some americans president bash and that’s expected, it’s happened all throughout history. no one has ever had a total vote so…next! america was built on the idea of being wealthier than the rest of world and that same thinking has brought us here today….mean while the queen and japan just sit back, collect from us and laugh, ok me too. so what do we do then? get spiritually prepared. we are all acting on our own account when there is a way higher power than our weak gov’t, that has the answers and is waiting for someone to say, hey God, what do you have to say? because look where we are today from taking God out of everything…..ever think of that
“Can’t you just get over the fact that red and blue is childish and only makes things worse? The election is really over now so just stand up and support your president” And there it is again. Were you standing in support of “your president” when your president was G.W. Bush? Tell the truth. I bet you were one that spent the past 4 years screaming the Bush should be impeached, or assassinated, that was a very popular theme among the looney leftists. So do tell, did you support Bush as “your president”? Same old story, “let’s all get behind him”, “he’s your president”, yada-yada-yada.
Now that Obama is a baby killer, he really needs your support. Rationalize away about his air strike killing babies like the other responder did, doesn’t matter. He’s a BABY KILLER now, so get behind your baby killer and support him! This will be a FUN 4 years!
“the baby killer comment….seriously pumpkin that comment ended with Vietnam”... Well, thanks, SWEETIE, you obviously haven’t been looking at the internet for the past 5 years. There are quite a few entire websites devoted to calling G.W. Bush “baby killer”. A simple google search will prove my point. We do agree however, that people are going to regret voting for Obama. All the ignorant first time voters who believe “we’re all gonna be rich!“ are probably already starting to feel the let down.
that doesn’t look like enough $ for transit. Most money is going to balance budgets. Does that mean that state and local government jobs will return. Works that have been laid off will go back to work? Specifically, how can people buy homes and cars without a job? How will the jobs be developed and restored?
I honestly hope no one thinks Obama is really going to “change” things. But hey if people do believe in that then hey live in your bubble world, for it will soon be popped. The only thing Obama is going to do is make people regret they voted for him, plain and simple. As for the comment about the first air strike in Pakistan and the baby killer comment….seriously pumpkin that comment ended with Vietnam. Bombs kill alot of people and unfortunatly the innocent as well. Yes it is horrible but hey its a matter of “at the wrong place at the wrong time”. As for the stimulus bill its just more we tax payers will have to pay back while others reap the good stuff. Welcome to it the country has been doing this for years.
God you are the reason we get such a bad rep abroad. Americans are so busy cutting each-others throats that they could care less about getting over their incredible egos. You make Republicans look like narrow minded and over reactive people.
And that is funny because I never said I was a Democrat did I? Thatsbecause im not. Can’t you just get over the fact that red and blue is childish and only makes things worse? The election is really over now so just stand up and support your president.
Oh and if I recall, Messiah was never mentioned either. Thank you for the clarification though.
And isn’t it funny when the anti-Bush crowd starts talking about unity under their new Messiah? “We’re all in this together”. Eight years of seeing photoshopped pictures of Bush looking like a monkey (try doing THAT with a photo of Obama, go to jail for a “hate crime”) or phony pictures of Bush with him holding a gun to his head. All the “assassination chic”. All the sheer hatred of the man from the looney liberal crowd, but now “we’re all in this together”?? The Democrats have been in power for more than a “few weeks”, and it was the Democrats who pushed Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac into making all those insane loans that they knew were high risk. So don’t give me the “I love you” crap, or tell me to get behind the new Messiah because we’re all in this together. Remember the past 8 years of Bush bashing, because you are in for the same thing, no holds barred. By the way, Obama is a baby killer now, his first air strike into Pakistan killed children. Baby killer. Baby killer. Baby killer.
Get used to it.
So many comments to make, too little time. Not sure where to start. Nancy Pelosi says that there is “No pork or pet projects” in the stimulus plan. Does anyone believe that? And where is all this cash coming from, the printing presses? If they REALLY wanted to stimulate the economy, the dot gov should give every family one million dollars. It would cost less and think of the spending sprees! :) George W. sent me 600 dollars. Obama is sending me less, but send it along quickly please, I need more guns and ammo for the coming collapse. hehe…
Wow you really hit the mark with that last comment! Aside from your post being difficult to read, you defiantly had some solid points. First off lets look at the first part. Do you remember how those banks and auto companies got those “millions” (which were actually billions)? Well I’ll help you remember, it wasn’t Obama and those damn Democrats. That didn’t even happen this year. Think about it. Secondly, I don’t think you understand who is at fault for all of our economic demise. You seem so keen on attacking the “banks” and “car companies” when you probably helped them to get where they are today. Don’t go blaming an entire nations economic problems on a few bad apples, especially when you left the biggest one out! I was referring to our former President by the way. Maybe just think about all the possible reasons that this bill is being enacted before you go attacking a man and a political party who have been in power for a few weeks. We’re in this together… we can only make it out if we work together, not blame each-other. I love you!
what si the “PLAN” going to do for me, as I can see, NOTHING. The money is going to the wrong people. How about instead of giving millions and millions to the banks and automobile companies, that money was given to the American People. More money for us means we have a reason tyo go out and buy a car, or but big $$$ items. When the Govenrment throws the money to everyone but the true people that need it, the govenment becomes just as bad as the BANKS and the CAR COMPANIES. I know the 13 extra dollars on my paycheck is going to make me want to go out and buy that new car or high dollar item. 13 bucks won’t even fill up my gas tank a week. Thanks Democrats and thanks Obama. You guys are the best. Screw the little people as always.
