CA Animal Welfare Initiative Moves To Ohio

» 8 Comments | Post a Comment

FRESNO, California - California voters’ landslide support last November of an initiative on the treatment of farm animals could lead to a similar vote in Ohio.

The Humane Society is considering backing a voter initiative in Ohio like California’s Proposition 2, called the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act.

Prop 2’s approval has led to a flurry of bills related to the issue. California lawmakers have acted quickly on measures that would ban removing the tails of milk cows, stop importing out-of-state eggs from hens kept in cramped cages and increase penalties for poaching wildlife.

Since the initiative’s passage, Ohio-based Wendy’s has vowed that at least 2 percent of its eggs will be from cage-free hens.

Other companies are taking similar measures.

Jeff, apparently you are too ignorant to even comprehend what you read.  This story is about a bill dealing with the HUMANE treatment of animals raised for food on FACTORY FARMS.  And it is your ignorant opinion that animals don’t think, reason, blah, blah, blah.  By the way, now that you brought it up, how did the turkey, bald eagle, falcons and many other animals end up on the brink of extinction..I wonder!

Animals don’t think, don’t reason, therefore they don’t suffer. Read C.S. Lewis’ book “The Problem with Pain”. All you animal rights people should spend your valuable time taking care of the less fortunate people in this world instead of worrying about what animals think. They don’t think and just in case you hadn’t realized, they really can’t talk. Now do some research on the National Humane Society and find out their real agenda is. And no, us hunters are not becoming the minority. Don’t forget that hunters pay for licenses and taxes that pay for your state and national parks and conservation programs that brought back the turkey, bald eagle, osprey, and falcons to Ohio. So do your research and get the facts before you go spouting off the liberal mantras!

Jeff what does California’s Proposition 2 have to do with deer hunting???  It’s called the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act!  Personally everyone that reads your post should wonder what kind of person you are if you could care less about how an animal is forced to live until they are killed for your plate.  Thankfully people like you are becoming the minority.

The national Humane Society has joined Peta in trying to “protect” animals and totally do away with hunting. Peta killed 99.8% of all pets they said they would find homes for last year. Imagine what it would be like if hunting was abolished! The deer alone would overrun us in 5 years. WAKE UP PEOPLE! Call or email your state rep and tell them this bill is no good!

I beleive the reason that the price of animal flesh went up is do to another brilliant enviromental movement using corn to make fuel.
Starve the people save the earth.

amosdr: Get real, Proposition 2 is not what caused the financial mess in California! All animals deserve humane treatment, even animals raised for food.  It’s inhumane to confine farm animals in cages where they can’t turn around, stand or move their limbs.  The agribusiness spent $9 million to try to defeat Proposition 2.  That’s one of the reasons why we pay so much for our food. Maybe you don’t care that your food is pumped full of antibiotics so that the animals don’t die from their living conditions but I do and will gladly support this bill.

yep.. and we have seen what has happen to Calif. The whole state is on the rocks….so does everyone want 5.00 a dozen eggs ? ? or how about 20.00 a pound steaks…and the part about poaching wildlife.. well we could use a few less deer.. infact we need to change the law… if you are out of work.. you get a free hunting or fishing anything linc. to help feed you self and your family….
