CANTON, Ohio—The police chief of a northeast Ohio township has retired after a video became public showing him and a female officer kissing and caressing in the front of a police cruiser while a prisoner was in the back seat.
Timothy Escola retired Tuesday night after four years with the Perry Township police department about 50 miles south of Cleveland. Law Director Charles Hall says Escola’s retirement closes an internal investigation.
Hall says no charges are being considered against part-time officer Janine England, who was with Escola in the cruiser June 2.
Escola and England drove to the Cincinnati area to pick up a burglary suspect.
An anonymous allegation prompted an investigation last week and a review of the cruiser’s dashboard camera.

Did you watch the video? You can clearly see reflections of the pavement markings and other traffic moving through the back window. She’s practically in his lap.
I’m not sure about this cruiser, but in my husbands cruiser they don’t have a monitor where they can see what they are video taping. He also always has to turn the camera around to show the prisoner when transporting. Maybe his department just jipped him and put older equipment in his cruiser. :)
I mean, if these two have something going on, good for them but either wait till you get home for these kind of things or at least be a little smarter about it. I don’t see the big deal, they were not having sex just some cuddle and kiss but I probably would not do it in front of the camera or with a prisoner in the back seat
yeah but two issues there, I have alot of friends that are cops and they use the cruiser’s internal audio recorder for prisoner transport instead of turning the camera. Second they could see on the monitor that the camera was capturing what they were doing and its not like those recordings are destroyed in any short order they are kept for months and if a recording of a traffic stop or something from that day did have to be called up then they should know that they would be busted
Mike - it is routine for the officer to turn his camera around to face the back seat when they have a prisoner in the car. They do this in case the prisoner decides to do something crazy then it is caught on tape. If they were going to do this they should have “forgotten” to turn the camera at all and kept it facing outstide! :)
oh, they are freaky. The camera turned towards them, the monitor allowing them to see every detail of thier actions, and an unconcious inmate in the bac seat….......I hope they had the defrost on.
If anyone here gets a chance do a google image search for the prosecutor 2000. This is the camera system most police cruisers are equipped with and it even has a monitor showing you what the camera sees so they knew they were being recorded
