Man Claims Police Used Taser Amid Fire Rescue

KENT, Ohio—An Ohio man complains that police used a stun gun on him and then arrested him while he tried to rescue family members from a house fire.

Nineteen-year-old Michael Bartlett Jr. also says he was burned on the face, torso and arm when he entered the burning house in Kent early Sunday but says he was not treated while in police custody.

Police in the northeast Ohio community say no one was left in the house to rescue at the time of the arrest. Lt. Jayme Cole says Bartlett ignored several warnings that he was putting himself in danger and hindering firefighters.

Cole also says anyone needing medical care while in police custody receives it.

Bartlett was charged with misdemeanor counts of misconduct at an emergency and resisting arrest.
