Officials Nix New Taxes On Ohio Amusement Park

MASON, Ohio—Local officials have voted down a plan to tax admissions and parking at Kings Island amusement park and a neighboring water park in southwest Ohio.

The city council in Mason rejected the proposed 3 percent park ticket tax and 5 percent parking tax Monday night, at a meeting that drew about 200 people. Residents who spoke out against the plan said the extra charges would be tough on families.

The tax on admissions would have added $3 to the cost of a Kings Island season pass and about $1.50 to the price of a one-day ticket.

The proposal’s supporters had said the money was needed for road improvements and fire and police services related to Kings Island and The Beach water park nearby.

Before asking for more tax money they need to learn how to manage the money they already have.
