COLUMBUS, Ohio—The Ohio Supreme Court says problems with a recent lethal injection aren’t enough to delay next week’s execution of a man who strangled his 67-year-old neighbor.

The court on Thursday rejected inmate Lawrence Reynolds’ request to put off his Oct. 8 execution after the state last month failed for the first time to put a man to death.

Gov. Ted Strickland stopped the Sept. 15 execution of Romell Broom after executioners struggled for two hours to find a usable vein.

Reynolds argued that Ohio’s lethal injection system should be investigated before the state tries to put him to death.

Prosecutors say difficulties with Broom’s execution don’t mean there would be similar issues with Reynolds’ procedure.
