Ohio Hunter Found Dead In Tree Stand

HOOKSTOWN, Pa.—Authorities say a 74-year-old hunter from Ohio has been found dead in a tree stand in western Pennsylvania.

Hanover Fire Chief Donald Plance says it appears that Gerald Welder, of Hudson, Ohio, died of natural causes. The Beaver County coroner is investigating, but says it appears Welder died of heart-related problems.

Police say Welder’s relatives went looking for him and found him about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a wooded area of Hanover Township. That’s near the Ohio line, about 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.

BIGDILLA….....

YOU ARE AN ABSOLUTE CERTIFIED MORON!

UNFORTUNATELY PEOPLE LIKE YOU LIVE LONG LIVES!!! PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT AND SHOT AT BIRTH AND SAVE THE WORLD FROM THE POSSIBILITY YOU MIGHT REPRODUCE!

YOU DON’T KNOW THE FIRST THING ABOUT HUNTING, LAND MANAGEMENT, WILDLIFE OR ANYTHING TO DO WITH HUNTING AND WHAT IT STANDS FOR. SO I WON’T BOTHER TRYING TO EXPLAIN IT TO YOU, BECAUSE I REALIZE THAT HAVING A BATTLE OF WITS WITH SOMEONE WHO’S UNARMED, WOULD BE RIDICULOUS ON MY PART!!!!

DO THE WORLD A FAVOR, AND GO CRAWL BACK IN YOUR HOLE AND STAY THERE!

Poor guy missed his chance to murder a deer in cold blood.  Serves him right!

This is how my husband wishes to pass, doing what he loves…in the outdoors, hunting, fishing- just enjoying life.  Sounds like your dad was doing the same.  Our condolences to the family, be proud- 74 and active! Sounds like a good man!

Ya know, I don’t want to sound bad at all by saying so. But it occurred to me.

This man was 74 years old. He’s lived a long life. If I were that man, I’d have to say I died happy. Doing something I enjoyed doing.

To his family. Be happy for him. He was in the great outdoors doing something he’s loved for many years I’d imagine. And if you could think of a more peaceful way to go than that norm…..isn’t this it?

God bless you, and god bless him! I’m glad he got to go out, doing what he loved! And not laying in a hospital bed agonizing. Thank god for that.

NitaKaye: Your dad sounds like a wonderful person, that understands what’s truly important in life. I garden a much smaller space than your father. Can,frezze and dehydrate too. It’s seriously hard work, but ever so rewarding.
Hats off to your dad!

How sad, my condolences to the family. You all make it sound like 74 is old. I got news for ya. 72 is late middle age to my dad! He still hunts racoon and walks for miles in the woods with his dog. He gardens 2-3 acres, yes GARDENS. Corn, broccoi, green beans, potatoes, aspargus and so on, for him and mom and his 6 children who still get vegies from him yearly to freeze/can. You’re only as old as you let yourself get.

I don’t have the numbers, but a lot of hunters die of heart problems from getting in and out of tree stands each year.

My condolences to the family.

He was 74 and still could go hunting and climb up into a tree stand then he had a wonderful good full life. He was blessed.

Did he get a deer or just a heart attack?
