Police Shoot Woman With Weapon At Group Home

TOLEDO - Police say they’ve shot and killed a woman who was brandishing a weapon at an Ohio group home.
Officers received an emergency call about a woman carrying a knife and behaving erratically at the two-story house in central Toledo. They say they arrived Monday night and confronted the 62-year-old woman.
Police Chief Mike Navarre says officers saw her with a weapon in her hand and exchanged words with her. He says an officer fired several bullets and struck the woman, who died at the scene.
The owner of the Fernwood neighborhood home cared for at least two residents, including the woman who was killed.
Police and the woman’s loved ones say she had mental health issues.
Police say the fatal shooting by an officer in Toledo is this year’s fifth, considered rather high.

the police will go hand to hand with a 300 pound man that could rip there head off with his bare hands and then tazer them but no a 62 year old mental ill woman and they just start shooting ,have you ever heard the saying dont bring a knife to a gun fight .well think about it was she really being a threat to anyone but her self yeah if shes holding someone hostage then maybe you would have a case to shoot her but if shes just talking out of her head and holding a knife you can always move away.again i feel sorry for the woman and the family .
having worked in a group home and gone threw training that included disarming someone with a knife ,why did they police feel the need to shot this woman ,if they couldnt handle a mentally ill woman that was 62 ,then they should have called in someone that could ,at least give shooting her with a tazer a try before you just unload you gun into her .doesnt seem right to me .i am sorry for the family .
