Speed Limit Cut In Work Area After 3 Fatalities

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - Ohio officials have reduced the speed limit through an Interstate 75 construction zone where accidents killed three people over four days.
South of Dayton, signs were put up Thursday afternoon advising I-75 southbound motorists of the speed limit change from 65 mph to 55 mph.
The latest deadly crash on that part of highway was Wednesday night. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a 58-year-old Cincinnati man was killed when he slammed his motorcycle into the back of a dump truck that had slowed down to enter the median work area.
An accident on Saturday killed a couple from Cross Plains, Tenn.; troopers say their car also rear-ended a dump truck.
The highway patrol says it’s increasing its presence in the area to make sure drivers slow down.

Wow, the speed limit in construction zones here is 45. I think that’s too fast in some areas of construction. I couldn’t imagine maintaining the 65 or 55 speed through some construction areas!
Monday through Friday, I travel 70 West into the downtown Columbus. I set my cruise control on 65 and travel in the slow lane. Every morning, the same Red Ford Pickup truck is right on my butt. If this person is so much in a hurry, then go around me or travel in the fast lane. If I were to put on my brakes, this person would end up in the front seat with me.
Why do people insist on allowing themselves to fly up on someone’s rear end? There’s no mystery to what causes rear-end collisions: you were too close.
Too many people lack the concept of what a safe distance is between their vehicle and what is in front of them.
