Suspicious Package Contains Live Snakes
Published: August 21, 2009
HAMILTON, Ohio—Police in Ohio say a suspicious package at a shipping store turned out to be a box of live boa constrictors.
Fairfield Township police say they were called Tuesday after FedEx Office employees saw two pillowcases moving when they got curious and opened the parcel at a store about 20 miles north of Cincinnati.
Officer Justen McDade says he looked in one pillowcase, saw a snake and quickly tied the pillowcase closed. A reptile rescue group was contacted and took custody of the snakes.
A local man was listed on the shipping label, and the package was addressed to a man in Phoenix, Ariz. He’s been told he may not get the snakes.
McDade says authorities are trying to verify if the sender had a license for shipping snakes. No charges have been filed.

Poisonous, constricting, whatever. What I want to know is what idiot decides to ship a snake that way? In a pillowcase? Good grief people are stupid!
deadly snakes? Seriously are people really so misinformed that it makes people laugh when you read their comments.
CORRECT, mjw.
AP’s boo. Most TV stations have not the time to confirm or explain AP’s story shortcomings. It’s been that way for decades.

Boas are ... not poisonous. ... threat to humans ... which was not provided in the story.
Boas are constricting snakes, they are not poisonous. They are only a threat to humans when they reach a certain size, which was not provided in the story.
Isn’t this a felony? The man shipped deadly snakes, the postal worker could have been killed. If by chance it made it to the intended individual and left on a door step, a child could have opened it and been killed. I hope they take this seriously!
