Voters Say No To Cell Phone Ban
Published: May 6, 2009
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Voters in one Ohio community have said no to a proposed ban on using hand-held cell phones behind the wheel.
The referendum on the ballot Tuesday in Bowling Green would have outlawed talking or texting on a mobile phone while driving, except for handsfree devices. It failed by about 56 percent to 44 percent.
City Council member Robert McOmber proposed the idea and says he believes voters in his northwest Ohio community prefer a statewide ban, not a local one.
McOmber says he has no regrets about the vote and hopes the campaign raised awareness of the dangers so residents will make fewer calls when they’re driving.
A handful of states prohibit drivers from using cell phones, but Ohio is not one of them.

good job BG, common sense prevails.
Maybe some people are more dangerous driving and talking on the phone, but I dont think that applies to all. Probably the same people that cant chew bubble gum and walk at the same time. No more dangerous than smoking behind the wheel, messing with the radio, or the many other things people do while they are driving. Just my two cents worth. :-)
Ohio needs to ban ALL cell phone usage while behind the wheel. Most of the people here drive like they never set foot in drivers-ed or even took the driving test. So many times I have almost been literaly killed because sombody’s phone call was more important than the lives of people around them. If you cant drive to where you want without talking on the phone then maybe your family needs to stage an intervention. Losers.
It is one of the stupidest things you can do behind the wheel and acuse more injuries and death then you can bet DRUNK DRIVERS do.
