COLUMBUS, Ohio—A 20-year-old female pedestrian was killed in a crash with an SUV Thursday morning.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

The incident happened shortly after 7 a.m. on the city’s Northeast Side.

The victim was on crutches and trying to cross Cleveland Avenue from east to west. The drivers of a Ford Escape traveling southbound on Cleveland Avenue tried to swerve but hit the female pedestrian, authorities said.

The victim was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at 7:17 a.m.

Authorities closed Cleveland Avenue’s northbound and southbound lanes between Timbertrail Drive North and Belcher Drive, which is south of Morse Road, for crash investigation.

The road was reopened to traffic at about 8:30 a.m.

CPD’s accident investigation squad said it’s too early to say whether charges would be filed. Officers at the scene told NBC 4 it didn’t appear as if the driver was at fault.

Police have not identified the victim currently.

Cleveland Avenue is a speedway… almost as bad as Riverside Drive.

Condolences to the family of the victim.

I am sure the driver is horrified by this ordeal.  He/She will have to live their life knowing they killed someone.

Prayers with all that are included in this accident.

My sentiments exactly, NitaKaye.  I would like to add that the unfortunate woman, as sad as this story is, was not “fatally struck, as the headline would leave you to believe.  She died from her injuries a short time later.

I took a journalism class in College, and while it was only one class, I can articulate better in my sleep.  It’s sad that this sub-par writing is the acceptable “norm” at this news outlet and others as well.

My condolences to the woman’s family.

A person does not have a crash with a car. They are struck by a car. Granted, this woman unfortunately for her, was at fault, but she still did not crash with the vehicle, she was struck. And you can only have ONE driver of a vehicle, so to say driverS of vehicle is wrong.
