Fatal Crash Shuts Down Interstate

BUCKEYE LAKE, Ohio – The Granville Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two-vehicle crash that happened just after 6 a.m. on Saturday.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Authorities say a semi tractor was sitting stationary on eastbound I-70 west of the eastbound rest area obtaining directions.  A Chevy Lumina driven by 39-year old David Valentine of Columbus, Ohio struck the semi trailer in the rear with the right side of his vehicle.

Valentine was transported to Grant Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.  His passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.  She was identified as Barbara Steinbrook, 37, of Columbus.  The interstate reopened to traffic at 9:30 a.m.

Seatbelts were in use by the passenger; however it is unclear if the driver was wearing his.  It is unknown if alcohol or drug use was a factor in the crash.  The crash remains under investigation at this time.
