MADISON COUNTY, Ohio—Two tractor-trailer-involved accidents shutdown a portion of Interstate 71 for hours Monday.

NBC 4 reported with the FAST FACTS.

Two portions of Interstate 71 northbound were closed late Monday morning after a tractor-trailer lost its load and a resulting rear-end crash that involved two more semis.

I-71 northbound was closed between mile markers 82 and 83 in Madison County for the tractor-trailer that lost its load. That accident and closing happened close to 10:30 a.m.

The second crash and closing happened at about 11 a.m. That accident closed I-71 northbound from state routes 38 to 56.

Two semis were traveling northbound on I-71. The first semi, driven by Todd Gibson, was stopped for the earlier crash where the tractor-trailer lost its load.

Gibson was rear-ended by an R&L tractor trailer, driven by Everett Ramsey Jr., according to West Jefferson troopers.

Ramsey Jr.‘s cab was crushed in the crash, and he was pinned inside.

Ramsey Jr. was extricated from the cab and flown to OSU Medical Center in nonlife-threatening condition.

Gibson was not injured.

OSP said Ramsey Jr. will be cited for failure to assure clear distance.
The left lane of I-71 was reopened to traffic close to 12:45 p.m.

All lanes of traffic were reopened to traffic before 3 p.m.
