COLUMBUS, Ohio—A major intersection is closed on the city’s northeast side after a fire engine rolled over Thursday afternoon.

The crash occurred on Westerville Road just south of state Route 161 in the area of Minerva Lake Road at about 3:45 p.m.

Offiicals told NBC 4‘s Ana Jackson that the engine was traveling northbound on Westerville Road while on a medic run with three firefighters on board.

A tow-truck driver traveling southbound on Westerville Road was behind a car that yielded to the fire truck. The tow truck attempted to avoid colliding with the car and traveled left of center. The fire engine attempted to avoid the tow truck, but the tow truck clipped the back end of the fire engine, causing it to crash onto its side.

The three firefighters were not injured, but the tow-truck driver and his wife were taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital in stable condition.

Westerville Road southbound was closed at S.R. 161.

The crash remains under investigation.

Columbus police said the tow-truck driver would be charged in the crash.

His ability to make a living depends on driving a vehicle for his employer and he doesn’t have the ability or courtesy to do drive with other vehicles on the road. A few citations ought to have him looking elsewhere for employment. Freaking geniuses everywhere you turn.

1230, I agree completely.  There are FAR too many incompetent drivers clogging up our streets and causing crap like this.

I love to see a tailgater get what they deserve.  It’s just terrible that the firefighters had to be involved.

The two trucker driver obviously was following too close to stop and not paying attention.  Hmmmmm, wonder if he was texting?

I normally do not post comments to stories but I just had to on this one.  Do you know how many times I have yeilded to an emergency vehicle only to have people either lay on their horn at me, pass me or flip me off for doing so??  I honestly think we need to “re evaluate” people every 5-10 years before they can renew their license, not just check their eyes and then send them on their way.  I think they are either too stupid to be driving or just too much in a hurry to follow the laws of the road!  It is both frustrating and scary!!

So, Mr Tow Truck driver, would you like a citation for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, or failure to maintain an assured clear distance ahead?

Here’s your sign.
