Firefighters 4 Kids assisted more children this holiday season than last year thanks to the generosity of Central Ohioans.

The preliminary numbers indicate that 6,648 families and 17,295 children were assisted compared to 6,188 families and 16,000 children in 2008.

Nearly 1,500 vehicles dropped off toy or monetary donations at the NBC 4 supported toy drive Saturday, Dec. 12. Although donations filled two semi-trucks and totaled $53,263 in cash that day, firefighters needed more. Additional donations were collected following the toy drive, allowing firefighters to assist all the registered families.

Firefighters 4 Kids Toys Drive with NBC 4 is sponsored by CME Federal Credit Union, Truberry Group, Walmart, 95.5 The Hawk and 104.9 The River.

Thank you to all the companies and organizations who made the toy drive possible!
