What's New

Construction on various components of the Scioto Mile downtown along the riverfront has already begun and is expected to continue through November of 2011. The Scioto Mile construction (particularly the Bicentennial Park and Civic Center Drive components) is causing numerous change to the presentation of Red, White & Boom! These changes include:

  • The movement of the fireworks firing zone from the east side of COSI on Washington Blvd. to the east side of Veteran's Memorial in their loading area
  • Washington Blvd. replaces Civic Center Dr. (between Broad St. and Town St.) as the new "Midway" of the Event
  • Long St. traversing North Bank Park will be open for concessions and entertainment for the first time
  • The expansion of Taste of BOOM! (Nationwide Blvd. in the exciting Arena District- now extending from Ludlow St. to Neil Ave.) representing an explosion of this very popular environment
  • The Independence Day parade will move from Front (north to south from Spring St. to Main St.) to starting on Broad St. between COSI and Veteran’s Memorial, heading east across the Broad St. bridge then turning north on Front St. and disbanding on Nationwide Blvd.
  • Best views of the fireworks will move north and west

Many areas of downtown Columbus will be under construction this summer, during the construction of Scioto Mile, a Riverfront park that will stretch from the Arena District to Whittier Peninsula and feature parks, boulevards, water features, plazas and bikeway and pedestrian paths, creating a green corridor that reconnects the downtown to the river.
