TEMPE, Ariz.—He flashed that familiar wide smile, stroked his smallish beard and said confidently, “I’m not sure.“
OSU junior tailback Beanie Wells today told reporters he’s not leaning toward the NFL draft or returning to school for his senior year, but Wells was quick to say he has several major goals still unaccomplished in college.
“I want to be best ever at Ohio State… I want to be a Buckeye and the best Buckeye,“ Wells said early Thursday. “I got to get past Archie, Eddie… whatever it takes.“
Buckeye head coach Jim Tressel has said repeatedly he thinks Wells is well positioned to leave school for the NFL, but Wells said he’s surprised his coach spoke so confidently about his possibly departure.
Wells is currently 4th on the all-time rushing list at Ohio State but with a strong senior season could become the school’s all-time rushing leader.
He said he’ll make the decision with family after the Fiesta Bowl.
The Buckeyes return to practice today, which is closed to the media for the rest of week.
