WHITEHALL, Ohio -- School districts around the country are turning to school dress codes to decrease violence and competition among students, as well as increase productivity.
Some Central Ohio districts have already implemented dress codes and this year, one more school will be added to the list.
BOTTOMLINE: Whitehall City Schools students will be required to wear a uniform to school for the 2008-09 year. Vouchers are available for those families who qualify for free or reduced lunch in the district.
When Whitehall students hit the door on Aug. 29, they'll be wearing uniforms.
The district approved the new uniform requirements last school year, NBC 4's Candice Lee reported. District leaders said uniforms are one way to promote both safety and school spirit.
"Our standard dress policy is designed to improve relations by decreasing conflicts and promote an atmosphere of learning, promote campus safety and school spirit," said Superintendent Judy Dobbert-Meloy.
Given how expensive it can be to buy uniforms, there are vouchers available to help families defray the costs.
To qualify, you must be eligible to receive free or reduced lunch. The vouchers are worth $50 and can be used at two local uniform stores.
