[dateline] -- The school year has arrived for Central Ohio schools and the report cards are already out -- for the school districts.
FAST FACTS:
- Districts are graded excellent, effective, continuous improvement, academic watch or academic emergency.
- Columbus City Schools received a grade of continuous improvement -- but what do they all mean for parents?
Dublin teachers learned their school earned the excellent with distinction rating, meeting every standard in 2007.
Olentangy Schools, which is one of the fastest growing school districts in all of Ohio, also received the same rating.
South-Western City School officials said they thought the district performed well, but they're waiting for some extra details to be added to the overall score, which becomes official next week.
Worthington Schools returned to an excellent rating after a continuous improvement rating last year due to a lack of progress is some small groups.
Some Central Ohio parents said that if they were moving their family into a new district, they want to pull up a Web site and see the district's rating.
But the terms can be confusing.
A district may have a designation of excellent, but just below that information, you'll find it is not meeting adequate yearly progress and the district improvement status is at risk.
It completely conflicts with the designation.
The Ohio Department of Education said that parents should focus on the circled designation.
Another notation is an ultra-specific measurement of progress between sub groups like special education and English as a second language.
Ultimately, the state score is not as important to parents as the individual scores of students.
The state scores will be posted on the Ohio Department of Education's Web site beginning Tuesday.
