Abandoned Houses: How To Get Them Removed

»  Comments | Post a Comment

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- What can you do to get eyesores and hazardous vacant properties torn down?
Roger Fulk surveyed the damage one day after the massive fire in Circleville spread to his house across the street. Some neighbors say the large, mostly empty warehouse had become an eyesore. Fulk says he has always worried about problems at the vacant building.
Circleville Fire Chief Tim Tener doesn’t like big, old vacant buildings either. Aside from being an eyesore, they are extremely dangerous if they catch fire. This is the second mill fire in Circleville in recent years; fire destroyed the Old Purina Mill in February 2007. Chief Tener says tough times have cut the city’s budget for demolition of abandoned or vacant buildings, but he says there is a system in place to address resident’s concerns.
Contact your local building and code department with concerns about eyesores in your community.
