[dateline] -- Over a month after the serial rapist's 7th attack, the man continues to elude police and frighten Central Ohio women.
Columbus sexual assault detectives said leads in the case are beginning to taper off, but that it could be more than a month before they sort through the calls and tips the case has generated, NBC 4's Candice Lee reported.
Detectives said that during the month of November, the number of adult sexual assault cases were up from 2007 despite the high profile case.
In adults 16 years and older, there were 60 reports of rape -- nine more than in 2007.
Now, the department is reviewing questionnaires given to victims of the serial rapist, hoping to garner a better description of the man they are looking for.
Also, police said they continue to eliminate suspects from a list of 75 that they compiled.
While it's been a month since the last attack, detectives strongly advise women in Central Ohio to stay focused and alert.
"When it comes to sexual assault type crimes, you can never be too cautious. The first part of the question, has this guy gone underground or gone away? That's certainly a possibility," said Sgt. David Pelphrey, of Columbus police.
Police plan to hold no further weekly news conferences, but will keep the public informed in the event an arrest is made or the suspect strikes again.
