City Council Proposes SR 161 Renovation

»  Comments | Post a Comment

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- State Route 161 is one of the busiest areas of town when it comes to traffic, but as for business, there is not a lot there. City officials want to give the area a new look and according to commercial property owners, there is a lot of people looking to shop closer to home rather than driving. If you drive near the Northland Plaza, there are more “For Lease” signs than businesses. In an effort to hopefully change that, City Council is proposing making the 161 Corridor a special improvement district or a SID. Council members hope this will revitalize the area and restore it to its former shopping glory.

SID will come at a cost. Area business owners would have to pay roughly five percent of their current property taxes and the project could generate $1.2 million over the next five years. City Council plans on investing $50,000 from this years budget at Monday night’s meeting.
