CANAL WINCHESTER, Ohio -- Law enforcement is investigating after a cat was set on fire, tortured and euthanized.
The Fairfield County sheriff’s office said they are searching for a man who allegedly doused a woman’s cat in flammable liquid and set it on fire, NBC 4's Mikaela Hunt reported.
"This is a very unusual case. We usually don't have animal cruelty cases like this in Fairfield County," said Sgt. Kirk Kearn, of the Fairfield County sheriff's office.
The owner of the, which was named Pumpkin, is seeking counseling after telling her story to law enforcement officers.
The owner of the cat attempted first aid and took it to the local animal clinic. Pumpkin was badly burned and had to be euthanized.
The owner said she feeds up to 20 cats on a regular basis and feels like she's being targeted.
The sheriff's department said it has no leads in the case, leaving the cat's owner scared that another one of the cats will meet a similar horrific fate.
