ELYRIA, Ohio -- A defense attorney says an Ohio teenager who shot his parents over a video game dispute was a "typical 16-year-old boy" who "just popped."
Attorneys presented closing arguments Wednesday morning in the murder trial of 17-year-old Daniel Petric. He is accused of killing his mother and shooting his minister father.
Lorain County Common Pleas Judge James Burge said he'll announce his verdict Jan. 7. If convicted, the maximum possible penalty is life in prison without parole.
Prosecutors said Petric planned to kill his parents in October 2007 because he was so angry that his father would not allow him to play the video game Halo 3. He then tried to make it appear to be a murder-suicide.
Defense Attorney James Kersey didn't contest that Petric shot his parents, but insisted that the boy's youth and video game addiction made him less responsible.
