COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Hundreds of thousands of Ohioans are out of work as Ohio's unemployment rate remains high above the national average at 7.3 percent.
If you are looking for a job, there are programs that can help you, NBC 4's Paul Stelzer reported.
The Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation's job leaders resource room offers multiple free services.
You can use their computers to update your resume, contact employers and look at job listings.
There are classes to help improve your job interview skills.
"If you tend to get nervous in interviews, they can help you with that -- as far as relaxing -- things you should say to land a good job," said Kedeanna Roberts.
"You have to have an attitude of 'Yes I can.'" said Mike Kirkling.
Suzanne Coleman-Tolbert, CEO of Job Leaders, said if you are a few classes short of your degree, the time when you are unemployed is the perfect opportunity to finish up and get that degree.
If you are without a job, there are countless ways to improve yourself and become more desirable to employers.
Learn a new language: with more free time, you can pick up the necessary skills to become bilingual in the work force. Being able to speak a second language, especially Spanish, is a very attractive quality when applying for a job.
Take a class: are there skills that you lack that have held you back for advancement opportunities? Take advantage of the time you have now and take the class that could lead to a new job and maybe one day, a promotion.
Reassess your life: is the career path you were on something you really wanted? Take this opportunity to re-evaluate, or even take on an internship in a field you are interested in.
